GUTS TICKETS

Last November, during the apparent "mania" surrounding cryptocurrencies I invested in an ICO... Initial Coin Offering. Its similar to an IPO except, instead of owning shares of a company - I owned tokens of a network (GET Protocol in this instance). I hope to use this blog post to bring more awareness to this company and the problem they are trying to tackle...not investment advice.

Simple Explanation: You want to go for a concert…its sold out – now…
Q. how do you buy your tickets?
Ans. From the secondary market (resellers/scalpers) who charge ridiculously high prices and sometimes don’t even you sell you the real ticket. This has angered artists, fans, and everyone that wants to experience any event that requires a ticket – there is a rampant problem of ticket frauds, ticket scalping and fake tickets.
Solution = GET Protocol

Technical explanation: The GET Protocol is a blockchain-based protocol that is used by ticketing companies to completely merge the primary and secondary ticketing market. The protocol gives complete control over the sale and trade between ticket holder from the moment the first ticket is sold until the last ticket is scanned. They are based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and has a working smart ticketing application that is already used by big event organizers in the Netherlands.

Why I liked it: I believe that if crypto wants to be as revolutionary as people claim it to be, anybody irrespective of their technical backgrounds should be able to use it. Just like the internet -  no one need to understand HTTPS, transferring data packets and end-to-end encryption, to use the internet.
 The GET Protocol users do not know they are using a token or blockchain! They just use the app and buy tickets knowing that if the event is sold out, they won’t be subject to the predatory pricing of the secondary ticketing market.

PS: I tried to simplify a rather complex topic…I know it can be confusing

  1. I have no clue how bitcoins and all these crypto currencies work. One reason I did not invest in any of this is because the system was not user friendly for me to figure it out so I just kept my money (or I guess I spent most of it).
